Hmm, a technology blog? What to pick? What to talk about?
I think I might talk about IMDB. Personally, I LOVE the Internet Movie Database. I get lost in it. All I want to do is find out who Joe Bloggs was and, after 3 hours of clicking on different names and going 'oh, he was in THAT', I realise it's possibly time to go back to what I was originally looking for. It's also helpful for verifying things, whoever is entering these entries normally enters tonnes of information. Unfortunately they rarely enter the caterer (the poor forgotten caterer).
Not only does IMDB have information about the movie, there are also reviews from people who have seen the movie...not paid reviewers but everyday people.
If I'd been smart enough to look at the IMDB entry for Lady Chatterley, I would not have wasted an hour of my time seeing it (and yes I know the movie goes for three hours, after nodding off during one of the 'love' scenes, I left). At least one person mentioned that I would have fallen asleep if I didn't like DH Lawrence (which I don't...but some of the movie adaptions of his novels have been good).
Hmm, as I'm typing this I just realised that technology could be outside the internet realm. In that case then I want robotic vacuum cleaner...one of those ones that sense furniture and vacuum around it. Sure it wouldn't do the corners well but it would do the rest of the carpet. (Although, if the Choice Magazine tests are anything to go by, it doesn't do that so well either). Ah well.

Robotic vacuum sounds cool but would probably pick up anything you dropped on the ground. Not very practical.

Some of the more expensive robotic vacuums can 'sense' larger things that are dropped on the ground. Most of them sense things like couches and coffee tables but I think they can also sense things like larger bits of paper. With couches they just scoot around them, am unsure what they do with things like paper, maybe they could push it into a pile in a corner for me to deal with (or under the couch for me not to deal with!)

Linda: There have been some really interesting developments I've been reading about in terms of 'learning' computing. I was reading about the software that indexes UN documents the other day, it 'knows' what the document is about and can assign subject-headings to it fairly accurately. It may sound less like AI to a non-cataloguer, but assigning accurate subject headings is quite difficult and having a computer do it is amazing. I was also reading about software (similar to the UN program) which can 'read' strings of text in prose and work out who wrote it (ie if you had two books by someone called Frank Wright, it would be able to assign one book to be by Frank Wright the sailor and another by Frank Wright the plumber). Although no vacuuming yet :/

Zoya: I read plenty of books. In fact Lady Chatterley was based on a book...not a very interesting one though. If it helps, I saw the Bourne Supremacy on the weekend which is also based on a book...AND I read a book called Academ's Fury (fantasy book, interesting concept, average writing style).
